Ohiopyle Kayaking Over The Falls

It was a last-minute decision to drive to Ohiopyle State Park. My wife Sara and I usually like to visit a couple of times a year, and it's always a pleasant drive. Today was no exception, until we pulled into the parking lot at Ohiopyle.

Once we arrived, it started to downpour for about 30 minutes. We decided to wait it out to see if it would clear up. Fortunately, it did, so we were able to take a walk and snap a few photos by the water.

I took some long-exposure photographs of the river during our walk. When we reached the waterfalls, we noticed a small group kayaking over the falls, so I decided to take some photos of them.

As I started taking pictures, one of the kayakers gestured to see if I would capture them going over the falls. I took as many shots as I could, hoping to share them later.

After they finished, we met up and talked for a while. I learned that Jefrey, one of the kayakers, was visiting from Costa Rica just to kayak over the falls in Ohiopyle. It was a pleasure meeting Jefrey.

Here are some photos I captured the other day.

For those interested in the camera gear and settings I used, I was shooting with my FujiFilm XT-4 and the 55-200mm lens. I was using aperture priority with f/4.8 (only because this lens has a variable aperture and is a little slower on the long end) my iso was around 800 to keep my shutter speed pretty fast to stop action and not have blurry shots.
